Interlock Device Requirements

For first and repeat DUI offenders the court may require to use an ignition interlock device. Before starting the vehicle, the driver must blow into the device. The vehicle will not start if the driver’s BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) exceeds 0.05%.

First Offense in NJ

  • • 6 months-1 year installation of interlock device after restoration of driving privilege

Second Offense in NJ

  • 1-3 years installation of interlock device after restoration of driving privilege; or
  • Interlock Device Requirements, Cont’d

  • 2 years suspension of registration privileges

Third and Subsequent Offenses in NJ

  • 10 year suspension of registration privileges
  • 1-3 years installation of interlock device after restoration of driving privilege; or
